My daughter was admitted to Children's and diagnosed with GBS meningitis. After spending more than a week there, we moved to another room. For two days, my daughter was inconsolable as she came off heavy sedation meds. When Samantha met her, she immediately spoke to my daughter with love and true compassion. Within a few hours of her shift, she voiced her concern to us about my daughter's current state. She quickly talked with us about getting some meds for her to help her come off all the heavy sedation she had been on for over a week. She then spoke to the doctors on my daughter's behalf and got her the medicine she desperately needed. She then told my husband and me to leave the room, get some fresh air, and take a break (which is what we desperately needed). While we were away, Samantha called to tell me that my daughter was sound asleep and to take our time. Our daughter proceeded to take a 4.5-hour nap after not getting any true rest for three days. She then gave us another break at dinner time and worked a 16-hour shift that day.
Samantha not only cared for my daughter that day, but cared for us too - two exhausted parents who had been staying in the hospital day and night with their very sick baby. She is most deserving of this award and I hope she knows how truly thankful we are to her. The next day my daughter was visibly better, well rested, and smiled at us for the first time in almost a week. I am sure this was all a result of the rest and relief she was able to give her the day before. We love you! Thanks for loving our daughter.
