Sam is an outstanding nurse. She has been in the Mission Health system for over a decade, and she continues to improve the quality of care and safety of the patients, patient's families and hospital staff. She should be applauded and held up as a standard of practice for all of us to achieve.
Her job title is Charge Nurse of the Operating Room; however, she is so much more than that. She demonstrates accountability with her administrative duties but also compassion in the manner in which she coordinates staffing responsibilities.
CALM DEMEANOR - Sam is in charge of coordinating staff in the Operating Room. Dealing with various personnel issues, equipment issues and physicians is not a task for the faint of heart. Sam always does this with a calm demeanor and friendly attitude. She is a daily reminder of how people ought to treat each other with respect and kindness.
POSITIVE ATTITUDE - Sam has a "can do" attitude. Somehow she always finds a way to get things done while keeping the patient's care as the main focus.
GREAT LEADER - Sam hears many people's opinions on a daily basis. She demonstrates great leadership by respecting every person's opinions as important. She is accommodating when the situation allows. She gets people to work hard through her thoughtfulness, respect, kindness and positive motivation. She has gone out of her way to help people. She earns respect from the staff by being honest and straight forward. She is supportive of her staff which makes them trust her.
HARD WORKER - Co-workers learn by example. Sam's work ethic is one that everyone should mimic. She is constantly trying to make things work better, more efficiently and smoother. She is always striving for perfection. When she is in charge, people know that things will get done properly.
CARING - When her staff are sick, Sam takes care of them. She is caring towards every patient.
MERIT - Because of everything Samantha Farmer does, I believe every staff member that she comes in contact with has a more positive experience while working in the operating room. She ought to be a poster child for MERIT.
