Samantha made an incredible impact on my stay and care at Methodist Hospital. When I first arrived for treatment, I felt extremely anxious, and Samantha made me feel like my care was her priority. I was able to calm down because I knew she was a part of my care team. I also felt as though she treated me with the utmost respect. She didn't treat me like a "patient." She treated me like a person. This is the #1 reason why I am nominating her for the DAISY Award.
I am a 26-year-old high-functioning individual who tries my best to live a normal life despite my headaches and other health problems. Never once did Samantha talk "down" to me or make me feel like I wasn't a normal person just trying to get my life back. With my many health issues besides headaches, I asked a lot of questions during my stay here. Samantha always answered my questions and fully explained things to me. She put me at ease without making me feel foolish for asking. Again, she didn't treat me like a patient confined to a hospital bed. She also communicates well. She kept me posted about which doctor would be seeing me, what time I would receive medication, etc. This is something small that helped to put me at ease.
Something else I feel is worth mentioning is that Samantha would always let me know when the shift was changing, and a new nurse would be taking over. This helped my anxiety as well because I was aware of changes in my care team. Samantha deserves recognition for her compassionate care and a positive attitude. She is an amazing nurse.
