Our son was recently hospitalized for 3 days due to an acute kidney injury, dehydration, and possible enterocolitis. Ryan was our evening nurse on the second day, and right off the bat, he was interested in hearing about our little boy, "W". Our son is non-verbal, and Ryan worked hard at making him smile and laugh and not be afraid. I had some serious concerns about the lack of sleep that "W" was getting due to being woken up all the time for vitals, meds, etc. "W" has seizures, and most of his activity is during the wake to sleep period and sleep to wake period. "W" had only gotten about 4 hours of sleep the night before, and I was really concerned that we could be looking at a possible seizure if he couldn't get some uninterrupted sleep. Ryan said, "that's a real concern," and went about aligning procedures, vitals, and meds in such a way that "W" could finally get some sleep. I truly believe this is a big part of why he woke up so happy in the morning and had really turned a corner! We appreciate Ryan's listening, compassion, and understanding of "W's" unique needs!
