Rose was the ICU nurse that was on shift when my father passed away. I cannot imagine how difficult that is to experience, but she handled the situation with the utmost compassion. She spoke to my father before doing anything such as adjusting his IVs, breathing tube, or prior to administering medication. It was as if he was awake and alert and she was talking to him and she treated him with incredible respect. She was timely about shutting off the various alarms and beeping noises that were coming from the machines he was hooked up to. Each time one beeped it was scary and emotional for us and she made sure to communicate what was going on.
Rose reassured us that he wasn't in any pain, brought us tissues, and did her best to comfort us at such a difficult time. After my father passed, she offered to remove all the tubes, wires, and IV's that were intertwined throughout his body. It brought us an opportunity to see him peacefully as we said our final goodbyes. She also offered us direction in those following moments as we felt rudderless and did not know what was next. Information was given to us on how to make arrangements and take the next steps with the charge nurse. She offered information from her own personal experience; it was incredibly helpful and we appreciated it so much.
Rose was an absolute gem and I'm so thankful she was the nurse that cared for my father during his final moments and was on staff at one of the most difficult moments of my life. Rose, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
