Mr. Robert Parra has been working in the Emergency Department at University Medical Center of EL Paso for 10 years. He is an excellent nurse who provides patient care in our Level I Trauma Center. His love for his work and enthusiasm on the unit is admirable. Many times you here him singing and just loving his patients. Robert shares his expertise and knowledge in his role as preceptor and coach to new hires and nursing students that rotate through the Emergency Department. He proudly leads visitors on tours and show cases the emergency department, his colleagues along with the interdisplinary team at UMC of El Paso. Robert is a great example of how a nurse can provide excellent patient care and then go above and beyond to ensure the best possible outcome.

Robert was nominated for the Daisy Award by the Executive Director of Regency. He wrote on his nomination form:
On -- one of our employees was critically injured by an auto and was taken to UMC with only an ID no emergency information was available. By Monday nobody had inquired about her so Robert took it upon himself on his day off to try and find who she was and where family might be. By visiting her apartment he learned that she worked in “healthcare” and then proceeded to call all nursing homes, hospitals and finally Regency. Our employee (the patient) had not shown up for work that Monday, but we had not yet initiated a follow-up. Because of his empathy and compassion we were then able to find members of her family and assist the admissions office with social security numbers and etc. Had it not been for Robert it’s hard to imagine how long it would have taken to locate her and then follow up with location of the family. Robert provided his phone number and was so supportive in answering our questions and understanding with patient and when speaking with members of our staff who were then able to visit our employee (the patient).
