Dear Nursing Staff,
Ritu is kind, caring, and truly exceptional. She not only did her best to take care of me but also devoted her time in making sure that my entire family was emotionally supported especially in helping them cope with an unexpected tragedy - my passing. As difficult as it was for my children and grandchildren to watch me lay unresponsive despite every effort, Ritu made sure my passing went as smoothly as it could possibly go.
Ritu's compassionate care was beyond belief. Her genuine effort to help my kids cope with this unexpected grief was greatly appreciated. There was a tremendous feeling of loss and grief in my room but Ritu always walked into my room with grace and compassion. She maintained her professionalism and effortlessly showed her beautiful caring smile towards me and my family. She stood by me and by my family throughout her assigned shift. I felt her warm hands as she washed my face with a warm cloth. I remembered her gentle and kind voice as she offered an extra chair, tea or soda to my children and grandchildren and how she truly made the last hours of my life more bearable to my family. A number of times she kindly allowed more than two visitors to stay with me in the room.
She reassured my family numerous times that no one would withdraw any treatment until everyone is engaged and has agreed to do so. She made sure every child of mine was involved at every step of any decision to be made. I felt her heartfelt sorrow towards me and my family. However, despite every effort, they could not manage to save me. In the end, there was only one choice left and that was to go with God's decision regarding my destiny. It was time for me to join my husband and my parents who had been waiting for me.
There is nothing better for any family to know that that their loved ones are in the best hands possible. Please share this letter with all your nurses. Let them know that their kindness goes a long way and never goes unnoticed by patients or their families. It was a wonderful and a true blessing to have Nurse Ritu Mehta standing by my side in my final hours as I left your world.
