I was in the hospital trying to make the hardest decision of my life when I met Rick. He came to my room and started an IV after numerous tries by other nurses, and he was able to start my IV on the first try. The next day Rick was my nurse and he talked about my situation with me, whether I should amputate or not. He explained to me how much things had changed with prosthetics.
I asked if I could have Rick as my nurse at least until my surgery. He kept me in good spirits. After surgery when I came back to my room Rick had met my mom and dad. I was so depressed because of all the stuff I had hooked up to me. They had changed my IV that Rick had started earlier and it was moved to the bend in my arm. It kept making my IV machine beep and I was crying because of everything. Rick grabbed my hand and told me he would be right back. He returned and started a new IV with one try which helped my nerves that were so bad. I asked him to contact my doctor about getting me some medication for the pain and my nerves and it was done that day. Rick was my nurse but he also became my friend. He is one good nurse and really makes NEA shine.
