Ricardo took care of my granddaughter, N, while she was on 4W at CHOP. He always entered the room with a big smile. Every time he entered N's room he made her happy. He always had something positive to say. He talked to her and took her around in a wheelchair when she was not allowed to walk. He made N feel that it was OK to be scared by telling her stories about his own fears. N loved talking to Ricardo as he made everything look easy. Ricardo is a very compassionate human being. He knows how to talk to young adults (teenagers) by coming down to their level. I noticed that when he talked to N he behaved as if he was a teenager himself. It seems to me that Ricardo has a lot of experience working with children and that he loves what he does. I visited N every day while she was in the hospital and I was always happier and felt better when I found out that Ricardo was N's nurse for the day. I truly believe that Ricardo is a great asset to CHOP. It is extremely important for kids to have nurses who can relate to them as Ricardo does.
Note: This is Ricardo's 2nd DAISY Award!
