Rhiannon was my preceptor while I was a new grad down in the Ed. There wasn't a shift that went by the Rhiannon didn't go the extra mile for any of our patients. Day in and day out Rhiannon, or "Benie", reminds herself to rid herself of cultural biases and treat every patient with the most respect possible. We took care of a lot of difficult patients together from drug users to domestic abuse. It is hard not to enter a room and not treat a patient based on how biased you are towards their age, culture, reason for treatment etc. ; but Rhiannon excels at this. She is THE kindest nurse I've ever met, and she's the smartest. She knows her protocols like the back of her hand and she's always there to assist and answer questions for her fellow RN's. It's always a good night when you share a pod with Rhiannon because you know you're with the best of the best and you'll always have your back covered. She deserves the award because she's too humble to acknowledge that she's an incredible care giver, partner, RN, and employee.
