When a young patient made a turn for the worse, Renzo went above and beyond to help make his and his family's transition as smooth as possible. He showed an amazing sense of compassion and humility as he helped navigate these emotional waters. What is most impressive was how this wasn't his actual patient, but he jumped in to help another nurse in a terrible situation. Renzo definitely showed what it meant to be a nurse.
The family expressed that Renzo was a source of emotional relief and huge comfort with respect to their son. The patient that Renzo assisted with was an unfortunate 26-year-old who had been struck by a motor vehicle. Initially, this patient was brought to 5 East, where the patient underwent an emergency lower extremity amputation in an effort to save his life. Shortly thereafter, the young man required an aortic dissection repair as a result of this injuries and was brought to 2 East for recovery. Unfortunately, the medical team had to make the tough decision to amputate his other lower limb to increase his odds of survival. Renzo had his own patients that he was managing, but of his own accord, organized his day as such that he was available at key times for this family in great distress. Renzo puts the needs of others before his own needs. He is a genuine team player. He lives and works with his whole heart.
