Transformational Leaders, as defined by the Magnet Recognition Program:
• are those who stimulate and inspire followers to both achieve extraordinary outcomes, and in the process, develop their own leadership capacity...
• they help followers grow and develop into leaders ....by empowering them and by aligning the objectives and goals of the followers, the leader, and the larger organization
• they behave in ways to achieve superior results by employing one or more of the 4 core components of transformational leadership:
Idealized influence
Inspirational motivation
Intellectual stimulation
Individualized consideration
Renee, in my observations, consistently exemplifies the characteristics of a transformational leader. You never see anything but true professionalism and dedication to those she serves. Ensuring her team is prepared to deliver the highest quality care and service to our patients is her top priority. She is an expert clinician and a good mentor. She never reacts prematurely, but thoughtfully processes and then seeks the best solution for all involved.
She leads her department effectively and keeps the broader organizational objectives in mind. She empowers her nursing team to explore, question, challenge, and introduce innovative care solutions....and they act on it. Renee is caring and compassionate, not only toward her patients but toward her co-workers. She celebrates their personal events and supports them in their struggles. Renee is graceful and humble and never looks to draw attention to her own contributions. I am proud to be her colleague.
