Remedios is a CNIII, Preceptor, unit base R3 Co- Chair, Unit Council member a devoted leader of the Cardiac Team who is a dedicated NYP staff for 42 years of service. She develops trusting relationships with her patients and uses this to provide the highest level of attention. Her patients feel comfortable expressing their needs to her, and this enables her to be an effective health teacher that has resulted in better outcomes. Her compassionate care can be recognized from her initial greeting of the patient when conducting bed shift report. She always has a smile on her face.
A very sick patient was in CCU for 2 weeks. Remy noticed that the patient's son slept in the lounge. She talked to him and found out that he is from another state visiting his mother. Remy bought a folding bed and recliner for her patient's son to use in the visitor's lounge.
She encourages those patients whose been in CCU waiting for transplants who verbalized boredom. Remy brought them materials to use to draw. She even framed their art and displayed on the wall of the Heart Center. Her compassion led her to create poster titled, "Where has all the compassion gone? Can we retrieve it?" It was presented at the 6th Annual Nursing Research Symposium. Remy is loved and respected by patients and families.
