I was hospitalized at Moses Cone Hospital for a week because of my heart issues and breathing problem. I want to thank the Nurse Rekha for the happiness she brought to me on that day. That day was my birthday and I was in the hospital bed away from my family with no visitors per hospital rule. That was not my choice, but my heart condition was not good. I was deeply sad on that day which was one of my special days although it is a regular day for others. And that one nurse made me feel very special on that day that made me happy even for a moment, I forgot all my pain during a hospital stay. Rekha was very kind and compassionate from the beginning I met her and she proved it too. She wished me a happy birthday with a bright smile that morning and said: "you are a very special person and I am very happy to celebrate this day with you. You are not alone, your hospital family is with you". That gave me a huge smile and psychological support away from my wife and daughter. I do not remember the exact time, on that afternoon she entered inside my room with another bunch of nursing staff and housekeeping staff. They all sang a happy birthday song for me. I cut the cake in front of everyone. It was a huge surprise and my best birthday ever. I also gave a little speech on how thankful I am, and I could not control my tears. My nurse Rekha did not tell me, but I knew later from other staff that it was all her idea and the main thing that touched my heart that she managed birthday cake, a candle, card, and all the arrangements for me with her own expenses. I have not seen this kind of kindness before. I will not able to pay back her gratitude that brought tears into my eyes in this life but I am so grateful to meet such a great nurse like Rekha who goes above and beyond to make her patients smile. I have her card with me saying "Mr. M you are special, Happy Birthday" I will keep this with me as long as I live for my memory. This gives me courage, strength, and hope. I wish every patient got a kind nurse like Rekha. It's people like Rekha who really make a difference in our world.
