It is impossible to summarize in a few words what kind of nurse Regine Walton is to South Nassau Family Medicine. Starting in 2011, Regine has devoted the last 6 years of her life to caring for a unique, underprivileged, and if I may add, a spectacular group of patients. She holds certifications as an Asthma Educator and Breastfeeding Counselor. She is a natural born leader and has made countless contributions to assist in the growth of Family Medicine. She is an instrument in the facilitation of family/patient centered care, and embraces challenges and change with innovative strategies. Regine is responsible for the role out of the "Ages and Stages" program in which we receive education booklets that are passed out to the patients to test for any developmental needs. These tools are used regularly on the unit and give families a means to get involved in their child's care. Regine understands the value of family-centered practice, and makes it a priority. Regine's most notable quality is her leadership skills, and her desire to expand her knowledge in health care, without a question without a doubt she is there teaching and learning something NEW. She is always attending classes for continuing education. Whether it be staying late to help nurses finish their work, talking you through your first lab/phlebotomy stick, or managing high patient flow in the OB section of family medicine, Regine is the person you want at your side when times become challenging. Regine has grown to be the eyes, and the backbone of Family Medicine. With her ever growing knowledge, family-centered approach, and innovation, Regine has shaped and impacted numerous nurses, patients, families, and the unit as a whole. I am honored to have gotten the opportunity to be her manager. Simply put Regine Walton as an extraordinary nurse.
