We had a call out on pediatrics and mother-baby helped us out by floating us Rebekah. Rebekah had never been on pediatrics and had never taken a pediatric assignment. With 7 patients and one on the way with no CNA or secretary, she jumped right in. She took an assignment and handled all of their care. She explained things to parents making them feel more comfortable. She motivated our children to get out of the bed and walk or play. She was amazing.
When we had a child turn bad, she jumped in helping me with my assignment. She even helped by taking two new admissions to a floor where she didn't even know where the bathroom was located. Most nurses who float to the floor are afraid to take assignments of patients that they are not familiar with. She asked questions and worked within her skill set to take care of her patients.
I have worked pediatrics for 2 years and have only once before had a day this crazy. Without Rebekah being willing to help, it would have been a disaster. She showed me what it means to be a team player and to put our patients first. Most people are scared of kids, but she jumped right in, making kids who were crying laugh by using creative methods. This helped to make the parents more relaxed as well as the kids. I have worked with her in the past on mother-baby and I know she is a team player there as well. I have seen her help out numerous times on patients who are not assigned to her. She is an amazing employee and Phoebe is lucky to have her as a nurse.
