This letter of greatly deserved recognition is a little late because, after my surgery and seven-day stay on 2S, I was sent to Outpatient Rehab for 21 days. I am now home and can send in this letter to let you know that you have a very wonderful, compassionate nurse by the name of Rebecca Yslas. I was in extreme pain most of those seven days, and Rebecca was always there to do everything in her power to help ease that pain. My family members were there almost all the time, and she always made them feel at ease and explained my condition to them on a daily basis. She provided all the comforts that she could when they visited. She consoled my wife several times when I was in such pain that I was not myself.
Upon my discharge, she made sure that the proper people were informed and made arrangements for me to get the homecare items that I needed, such as grab bars and a seat for my shower and a four-wheel walker to help me get around. She also got help for my wife to get these items into the car.
Throughout her shift every day, she came by to check on me, get my pain meds as needed, and always had a nice and encouraging word for me. I know she had many other patients, but in her most professional way, she made me feel like I was always getting one-on-one care, which in my mind is going way beyond.
It is because of nurses like Rebecca that I feel I healed much faster and felt so much better. It is also nurses like Rebecca who give the VA a better name.
