On behalf of the Professional Development Systems Council we would like to congratulate you on your nomination for the DAISY Award! You were nominated by your co-workers. Here is a summary of their comments…
Becky goes above and beyond to be a team by setting an example for others, insuring that all staff are comfortable with their assignments. She is always willing to help with patients that are not assigned to her and to help staff. She is a patient advocate and very knowledgeable regarding patient needs.
Becky volunteers to take patients who require more attention. For example, she volunteered to take a “difficult” patient who was violent, had mental health problems and was sexually inappropriate with staff. She was able to diffuse the situation by talking to the patient to calm him and by acting as an advocate for him.
Becky also acts as a mentor to new nurses. A new nurse was recently assigned a post op patient who had become non-responsive. Becky assisted and guided the inexperienced new nurse with providing the emergency care that was required for the patient. She also assisted the nurse with the information that needed to be conveyed to the physician by phone. Becky then encouraged the nurse to call an ACT (rapid response team) call which was made after the patient continued to be unresponsive even after the drug, Narcan was given twice. Becky never left the room and ensured the patient’s safety and bolstered her fellow RN’s confidence in this situation.”
“These are two examples of the way Becky handles all of her patients and assists staff. She truly embodies what a “DAISY Extraordinary Nurse” is. She never asks or expects praise for anything. Becky deserves to be recognized as a DAISY Nurse.
