While driving back home from being out of town, Becky came upon two wrecks. The first wreck had two semi-trucks, but Becky got stopped by the second wreck because the car was on fire in the median and the smoke was blocking the interstate. She could see people working to get the victim out of the car, so she called 911 to make sure the EMTs and the Fire Department were coming.
A couple of guys pulled the victim from his car, but no EMTs were in sight, and Becky ran over to him. An off-duty EMT got to him first and stabilized his neck. Together, they moved him to a safe spot because his car was still on fire. They had to keep him on his side because of his critical condition. EMTs arrived and Becky helped with vital signs, IV starts, and pushed fluids, listening to lung sounds and also trying to keep him calm.
Together, they got him on the stretcher and waited for about 8-10 minutes for the helicopter. After giving report to the flight team, he went off to Carle. Becky completed her assessment and identified a possible broken right arm and possible head injury; because he couldn't give his name. Thank you, Becky, for stopping to help in this critical situation.
