I honestly don't know where to begin. Nurse Rachel went way above and beyond when it came to just about everything. From making sure my meds were correct and then catching mistakes with certain meds that had been prescribed. She did her due diligence when reading over my file and finding that my liver count had been correctly reported as high but doctors missed that and prescribed both Tylenol and Toradol. But because Nurse Rachel knew better, she reported her findings to the doctor on duty who agreed with her to discontinue those meds and prescribed another that was safe for my liver, even at a high count.
Second, she noticed that every time a new IV was placed in my arms that after about 36-48 hours they were becoming infected and made the call to have my left arm checked by ultrasound finding more clotting in my veins. She had the Vascular IV team come and place a new IV in a deeper vein.
And last but not least, probably the most important, she lent her ear to me and listened to my concerns and then in layman's terms explained what and why things were happening. And then went out of her way to make sure it was known that I truly wanted to go from the hospital directly to treatment. Because of her and a few of her closest colleagues, they were able to guarantee me the transfer I requested.
Thank you so much to all of the nursing staff but most of all a huge thank you and appreciation for all your hard work, Nurse Rachel Yontz.
