Rachel was my mother's nurse for a couple of days and her compassion, kindness, and care made a very difficult time more bearable. Rachel did many wonderful things that comforted us but one thing moved me to write this submission.
Our mother had nine cats and my sister and I needed to figure out which three would be moving to California with us upon her discharge. When we got to the house, we could not identify the three cats because they all looked alike, so we called Rachel to see if there was any way we could FaceTime our mom and have her tell us which cats she wanted us to collect. What happened next was AWESOME!! Rachel said absolutely and promptly FaceTimed us and patiently held the phone while we held up cat after cat and said: "is this the one?" She is simply the best!
Sorry to report that after all that, the cats did not make it to California because our mom's disease progressed so quickly. However, I am happy to report that thanks to Care Coordination, the physician and your nursing staff, our mother successfully made it to California via airplane and peacefully passed after a few days of hospice care with us by her side. I have attached a picture of us cuddled in bed with her with the French doors open while we enjoyed the breeze, fall colors, and her favorite gospel music. It was a beautiful week- and much of being able to enjoy the final days this way with her was due to the wonderful work of your staff, so thank you! A special thank you to Rachel for showing that she cared!
