Nominations from co-workers
“Rachel “Dawn” Payment is one of our nurses in the Medical Imaging Department. Dawn is well known for her exemplification of compassionate care. “Dawn is hands down the most caring nurse I’ve ever met.” Every patient she comes into contact with leaves with a good story and a new friend. Patient comfort is paramount for Dawn. For example, while placing a PICC line on a patient who was extremely nervous about the procedure, Dawn comforted her almost immediately. She also saw that this patient would be waiting for transport for a while so she took the patient back to the room where she would be more comfortable. Dawn always uses AIDET and her years of experience ensuring that each and every patient is comforted in this manner.”

“Especially during tense situations, I was impressed with how cool, calm, and efficient Dawn can be. She strives to ensure that patients are safe and explains things in detail to her patients what the procedure will be. She explains it clearly to them in a way that they can understand.”

“I have worked with Dawn on many occasions during CT biopsies, drainages and X-ray procedures. She is extremely helpful to the ICU physicians, the radiologist, and the entire team.”

“Dawn is always very attentive to her patients along with their family members and everyone involved in the procedure at hand. “The thing I find very touching is Dawn’s true compassion for each and every life she touches. She is very engaged in all she does.”

“Dawn is an amazing nurse who shows tremendous empathy for her patients. She practices active kindness and continuously seeks to ensure patients’ needs are met. Dawn is able to build and establish a trusting relationship even when her involvement is only minutes long. Others look to her for inspiration and admire her dedication and spirit. Over the last year she has experienced tremendous professional growth by developing skills to insert central catheters and manage patients in the IR suite. I feel honored to have her as a colleague and hope that you see her merits.”

“Dawn goes over and beyond her job duties. She truly is an “angel in disguise.” She will stop with what she’s doing to help out other patients—always concerned with their comfort and care. I hear all the time from patients on what an amazing person she is. She also goes out of her way to help her team members. For example, Dawn helped me as the radiology technician. There was a difficult procedure with a multiplicity of needs to be met. Dawn cheerfully provided assistance at every level. She is a joy to work with, has an excellent positive attitude, and has great skills.”

“She is always the most uplifting woman of the day and it is difficult to leave from her presence without feeling a considerable attitude improvement in one’s self. She is especially knowledgeable and helpful to students new to the medical environment. In the Echo Lab we use the MICU nurses a lot. Dawn is consistently available in helping us and treats all our patients with great care and compassion. She fulfills all the criteria for compassionate care and clinical excellence.”

“I feel we are the luckiest people to get to work with such an amazing person. She is inspirational and is a great asset to Harrison Medical Center. I would trust Dawn to care for myself and for my family members.”

Nomination from a patient
I am pleased and honored to nominate Dawn Payment for the prestigious DAISY Award for her trained, quick and professional action and assessment when I nearly passed out with chest pain, shortness of breath, and extreme light-headedness which rapidly progressed while I was attending church one evening.

Dawn ensured the paramedics were called, relaying pertinent information to the 9-1-1 dispatchers, and ensured I was lying down. Her relaying information about my extensive cardiac condition to the 9-1-1 dispatcher and to paramedics clearly demonstrates her professional and competent care. While dealing with this life threatening situation, Dawn stayed with me until the arrival of the paramedics and my transportation to Harrison Medical Center. She maintained a calm and reassuring demeanor in performing her quick and professional actions.

Dawn’s professionalism, compassion, attention to details, and organization are a credit to Harrison Medical Center and are in keeping with the highest standards of the nursing profession!
