Her fast actions led to an emergent transfer out of the facility for further interventions, and Rachel's actions made all of the difference.
Yesterday Rachel was taking care of a busy patient group with complex patients when she initiated her FIRST Code Stroke of the day! The attending physician was dismissive and any nurse would have been discouraged from initiating any other calls for help with this behavior, but not our Rachel.
Two short hours later, a different patient in Rachel's care exhibited signs of stroke and she did not hesitate to initiate a second Code Stroke because she understands that time is brain for any stroke concern. In this second scenario, her fast actions led to an emergent transfer out of the facility for further interventions, and Rachel's actions made all of the difference.
I nominate Rachel for the way she approached all her patients on this day as individuals that deserved her utmost attention. She maintained her professionalism during these extreme events despite the obstacles and her patient outcomes were all the better for her personalized and competent care. Rachel is a DAISY Nurse as demonstrated by her doing extraordinary things in an everyday way!
