During an airline flight, Phillipa’s patient became ill with excruciating abdominal pain, which forced the pilot to perform an emergency landing in Charlotte. The patient was brought to CMC and rushed into surgery. Being alone in an unfamiliar city without family support, she was told by the airline that her ticket was non-refundable and she no longer had a way home. Phillipa would not let this matter rest. After several hours of advocating for her patient with the airline, she was able to get the ticket exchanged, fees waived, and the ticket upgraded to FIRST Class to ensure her patient a comfortable trip home where she can recover with the support of her family. Phillipa embodies the core value of caring that makes the difference in the lives of our patients.
