I am writing about a nurse that took care of my son. I have never met another nurse as caring and kind and compassionate as he was. His name is Pete Gaffney. He was never too busy to answer a question when I would ask when hope was getting so dim.

My son felt so secure and safe when Pete was his nurse. I also felt safe when I would leave the hospital and know he was in Pete's care. My son died in the hospital. He was 49 years old. Pete was done working his shift that day (7a-7p. My son died at 8:15 pm. Pete stayed and was in the room with my son when he took his last breath.

Pete is an Angel on earth. I will never forget his kindness as long as I live. Memorial Hospital should be honored to have Pete as part of their staff.

...

I nominate Pete Gaffney for the DAISY Award. He is most deserving of this honor. My brother had 2 hospital stays on 9 South prior to his death. Pete was his nurse off and on during this time. Pete always made everyone feel so comfortable and at ease with George's care. We were informed of his condition at all times.

Pete's heartfelt compassion, kindness and comfort meant the world to me when I lost my brother. Pete has found his calling. He was heaven sent to do what he does. I know he made a difference in our lives that we will never forget.

Thank you for all you do, you are an amazing person.
