After returning home I did experience some heavy bleeding; our inability to stop it led to our return to the emergency room. Once again, I received excellent care in the early stages of the COVID-19 shut down. I don't have the names of my caregivers in the ER, but I do remember that there happened to be a nurse in the labor pool who was on duty at the staff door; her usual job is in the cath lab, so it was really helpful to interact with her.

I remember this patient quite well and can attribute the success of his visit to a VERY proactive cath lab nurse who was working just outside the doorway in the check-in/temperature taking labor pool. From our records, I believe that it was Peggy Coltrin and she definitely deserves to be recognized.
Following the evaluation, I requested direct pressure on the cath site and then was immediately called into three successive full resuscitation patients. Almost 1.5 hours later, when I finally emerged, Nurse Coltrin had COMPLETELY solved the problem. She had heard the issue somehow while walking through, requested permission to jump in the ED, and worked in a care area that was unfamiliar to provide excellent care in a system that was definitively stressed that day. Not only that, but she found me twice while I was performing resuscitations to update me on the current status of the patient.
It is this type of collaborative, patient-first, can-do work attitude that exemplifies the entirety of our values, our mission, and our vision.
WELL DONE NURSE COLTRIN!
Though I thanked her on the way out, she deserves to be recognized formally. This was truly above and beyond, and this letter reminded me again of this patient encounter.
