I want to say thank you for the NNH Pediatric nursing team. Today the pediatric team at NNH demonstrated exemplary teamwork in the efforts to save a child's life. An 8-month baby was admitted to the ER (NNH) with symptoms of an intracranial bleed. The Peds ER called the Pediatric unit asking for a pediatric nurse to go to the ER to assist in caring for this critically ill child. Taylor Batties, peds RN very willingly went down to the ER to help. Anna Burroughs did an amazing job as charge. She kept calm and focused on the priorities of the situation. The patients on the floor were quickly cared for by Anna and Andrea Belfry. Cathy Thomas and Kara Austin, the pediatric outpatient nurses working today jumped right in, smoothly handling their outpatients and assisting with the inpatient Pediatric patients. Taylor was a very large help in the ER. She handles her pediatric nursing skills expertly. The small patient was transported to the downtown OR for emergency surgery, escorted by Dr. Brito-Gonzales (Peds Critical Care), and Megan, peds ER nurse. Because Megan was the only peds ER nurse, Taylor quickly agreed to take over as the pediatric ER nurse. All this transpired with calm professionalism under the leadership of Anna. The patients on the peds floor were cared for without any interruptions or knowledge that nurses were shuffling assignments to accommodate an emergency. Naples is blessed to have such a professional pediatric and pediatric ER team.
