I became acquainted with Patty about 18-20 years ago when she was asking for anyone who could sew or tie a quilt. She was in charge of sewing "comfort quilts" for patients who are terminally ill in the ICU. She organized collecting fabrics and arranged a sewing room and used it until the hospital needed that space. She moved all the supplies to her own home and continues to this day making quilts with the volunteers. Patty works the night shift and oftentimes works the night before we sew. She is always happy and excited to increase the inventory of comfort quilts. She talks often about how families appreciate the quilts. The compassion she has for these patients and families never waivers. She constantly thanks me for doing a small part in her project. The quilts are given to the family with a tag explaining the love and care that goes into making each quilt. Patty has truly gone the extra mile for Meridian Park. She has made a difference in the lives of many families experiencing the death of a loved one with these comfort quilts.
