I received a message from a patient that she wanted to talk to me regarding her hospital stay. The patient had a vaginal delivery of a baby boy. The patient stated that she is a physician from Syria and that she is very particular in that she expects great care and education given to her. This was her first baby and she wanted to have a successful breastfeeding experience.

I was a little nervous returning her call as she did not specify what the discussion would entail. She was very happy that I returned her call within 1 hour of the message and immediately told me of the wonderful care she received at our hospital. She stated that Patricia Rodriguez RN was an "unbelievable nurse" who gave the best care she could have ever imagined. She was patient and calm and treated her as if she were her only patient. After the patient went home she called the unit to ask a breastfeeding question and was happy that Patricia answered the call. Patricia took her time and assisted the patient with her concerns. The patient was excited that she was given Patricia a second time to assist her!

The patient thanked me for having such a wonderful, caring, and knowledgeable nurse at our hospital. She stated that having a baby is one of the most nervous and scary times and that Patricia put her at ease and made her feel confident and capable with the care of her newborn. She reiterated this over and over and is already looking forward to have another baby at our hospital soon! Her husband was also amazed by the wonderful care. The patient stated that Nataliya Kuliyeva RN was also a great nurse but that Patricia stood out among the rest. She felt that the information Patricia provided about breastfeeding was very thorough and that all nurses should be this knowledgeable.

Patricia just finished her breastfeeding counselor education at CSUSD and plans on becoming an educator next year. She works the night shift and has 2 small children at home. Patricia has worked incredibly hard over the last few years to improve her knowledge of postpartum and breastfeeding.
