Patty is an exceptional nurse who demonstrates excellent leadership skills. Patty was working in the night shift and there was a relatively new house administrator working that night. Another unit attempted to admit a patient to the OB unit and Patty did not feel it was safe to admit the patient to OB. She questioned the doctor and physician's assistant from that unit, but they continued to insist she take the admit. After discussing it with the house administrator, she decided to call her manager because she was concerned this patient would not receive the safe, quality care that she deserved. We both decided it was not safe for the patient nor the nurses and the patient was admitted to med-surg instead. We appreciate Patty's questioning attitude and commitment to safety and quality.
