Recognizing a nurse for all that he or she does is no easy feat. Whether it be for holding the hand of a dying patient or openly welcoming a new baby into this world, nurses are there for it all. Not only are nurses there for their patients but nurses do an incredible job of being there for their coworkers. Pam welcomes every situation with open arms and acceptance, compassion, and without bias. Pam serves the hospital in the capacity of a nurse, but she is nothing short of a hero. I am nominating Pam for the work she does when critical situations arise at the bedside and patient conditions rapidly decline. I have witnessed her willingly enter a room of a violent and combative patient without fear. She truly cares about ensuring that patients are receiving the highest quality and safe care that she sacrifices her needs daily to ensure this occurs. I cannot possibly tell you all of the incredible and excellent moments this nurse has been involved with but I can share an experience from today! I was working as the BERT RN and received a call about a combative and verbally aggressive patient who would not return to her room after therapy. I was in the room with the patient as I was called every name except my own. Pam was in the hall and heard the "commotion" in the room and with her calm and soothing smile, entered the room and immediately offered her assistance. After we were unable to de-escalate this patient, Pam took it upon herself to review the patient's chart to ensure that we were expending all resources available to help this patient. Pam's care, compassion, and dedication to the nurse profession are exuded from her in every situation she is in. I have never witnessed her back away from helping or leave a nurse feeling unsupported. As I said, I cannot possibly name all of the wonderful work that she has done but she is nothing short of a real angel.
