Recently in the unit, we had a fetal demise patient who was delivered at home just prior to arrival. Mom and baby were brought to South for stabilization. Pam quickly took charge of the situation, she comforted mom letting her know that we were going to provide the best care of baby as possible, as we would have to separate them to resuscitate baby and allow for the mom to deliver the placenta. Pam was able to keep the team calm and comforted as she guided the nursing staff in resuscitation of a neonate child.
After quite some time the baby buggy arrived with equipment to intubate such a small child and continue with resuscitation. Pam was able to integrate both the teams and keep them calm in a high-stress situation. Unfortunately, the baby was pronounced. Pam showed compassion and caring, praying for the child at the bedside as the mom could not be there at the moment. After the child was cleaned and equipment removed I asked the team if anyone had a bond with the mom and would like to be there for handing the baby to her. Pam stepped up to the plate and offered to be there for the important and difficult moment. Pam took great care and compassion talking to the child as she swaddled him to present to the mom.
This is a testament to the nurse Pam is; she is a strong leader and caring and compassionate for the patients she takes care of. Pam showed strong compassion caring for this neonate child, delivering the child to the mother for her to have the ever so important moment of relationship before she had to be transferred to another facility. Pam is the embodiment of a representation of what a nurse should be. I recommend Pam for the DAISY Award.
