My story begins with an innocent cut on my ankle. I was feeling hopeful that my life was on track, including recently being hired to start a new job so the last thing on my list was a stop at CMC to get my ankle assessed due to the increasing pain. Much to my surprise, I was diagnosed with a bone infection and was immediately admitted, placing all my other plans at a complete halt.
After surgery and several weeks of inpatient care, I was finally discharged facing an additional month and a half of intravenous antibiotics that were to be infused three times a day.
My infusions were provided by the Outpatient Infusion Center (OPI) and for the duration of my treatment, I had to transport myself and depend upon the incredible staff at CMC to bring me down to outpatient infusion during the day and up to 4B for the nightly infusion. I live alone and had no one to assist me and before long, I was exhausted and depressed and suffering from exhaustion.
The OPI team, concerned for my overall well-being, collaborated to streamline my treatment plan from start to finish, making my endeavor less stressful.
I would like to thank all the wonderful nurses and staff that have assisted me on my journey, especially the outpatient infusion department... who are extraordinary.
