I had injured my knee and was in a lot of pain. It took 2 weeks to get in to see a nurse practitioner. This nurse called me in and looked at my knee and said, "Oh, we are going to make you feel better." She smiled at me sweetly and said "I know you have really been hurting" and said "she was sorry". I could really feel that she meant what she said. She stood by me while the nurse practitioner withdrew fluid and injected my knee. Her presence was such a comfort. I knew she cared. A month later I saw the orthopedic surgeon and he felt I needed a series of injections. I was standing at the scheduler's window really upset because they told me it would be a month before they could get me in. She was standing across the room but heard and immediately came over and said, "We can do it right now." She could have let me wait, but cheerfully made a way to take care of me. She prepped my knee and again was right there for me and made sure I knew when to come back for the next injections. She took care of her patient with the heart of a true nurse and I will never forget her.
