I had quad-bypass Friday afternoon. Friday night was a hell I never hope to go through again. I was essentially trying to stay alive solely for that next shot of morphine. This lasted all night.

You came on duty Saturday morning and slowly started to put my broken body back together.
You kept me comfortable with medication and by repositioning my body. You encouraged me to take nourishment. You removed God-only-knows how much dried blood.

I felt humbled that someone would do this for me, and I felt ashamed that this was partially caused by my own behavior. The subject of smoking had come up and I promised you that smoking in my life was now an absolute thing of the past. I INTEND TO KEEP THAT PROMISE.

Thank you for your kindness.
Thank you for your hard work.
Thank you for your encouragement.
Thank you for transforming one of the worst days of my life into something positive.

I nominate Nikki Caldwell for the DAISY Award, she is an extraordinary Nurse.
