I was induced on Sunday and from the very beginning of my time at the hospital, Nic provided me with excellent care. I was very anxious about labor and delivery, as this was our first baby, and I was not entirely sure what to expect. Having an induction, with its possible complications, further concerned me, but from the first moment, Nic was caring, thorough, and attentive. She even thought of small details for us, such as making sure our bags were put away on tables and not on the floor.
Nic took her time, talking us through what to expect and answering any questions or concerns I had. Even small worries that I thought were insignificant she treated as important and with care. Nic was positive and gave me hope for best-case scenarios for the induction but was also realistic and gave me information clearly. She made both me and my husband feel extremely comfortable the entire day. Even throughout her shift when she was helping with another intense delivery, she took her time with me and remained focused and clear-headed.
I was particularly nervous about getting my epidural, but Nic calmly talked me through when an appropriate time would be to get it and exactly what would happen. She first looked into what anesthesiologist would be administering the epidural and reassured me that he was the best! She talked me through what to expect in terms of pain, made sure my needs were met before the epidural, stayed with me the entire time, and then helped me be as comfortable as possible afterward. Even when I was embarrassed because my water broke all over the floor, she took everything in stride and assured me that everything was progressing fine.
Toward the end of her shift, I was fully dilated and ready to push. We had joked early in the day that I would probably deliver right at the change of shift, and it essentially happened! Nic stayed past her shift to help me push and made sure I was comfortable before she left. Having nurses in my family, I know what a sacrifice that was on her part. My delivery did not go as planned, and our baby had to go to the NICU. The following day, Nic stopped by my postpartum room to check in on me, which was again, above and beyond what she needed to do.
My husband and I are so grateful from the bottom of our hearts for the care and concern she showed for us and for our daughter. Nicole is the epitome of what it means to be a caring nurse and she has absolutely impacted our family in one of the most important events of our lives.
