Nicole went out of her way and bought the patient a unicorn piñata filled with treats, unicorn face masks, and a card we all signed.
Nicole is a nurse in Interventional Radiology; she went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure great patient care and compassion. We had a young patient who had a horrible prognosis. This patient has metastatic cervical cancer and a fractured back.
The patient came down for a procedure, but due to the disease process and pain medication, the patient was unable to continue with the procedure. The patient loved unicorns. The patient was scheduled the next day to have general anesthesia for the procedure and was very nervous about the whole case.
Nicole went out of her way and bought the patient a unicorn piñata filled with treats, unicorn face masks, and a card we all signed. Nicole went to the patient's room the morning of the procedure, explained the procedure, and made her feel better about the procedure. These actions Nicole has shown and what she has done for this patient should be what all nurses should strive for.
