My son was a patient in Saint Barnabas Medical Center's NICU for 3 months after his birth. Throughout his stay in the NICU, I have been fortunate to work with a team of outstanding doctors and nurses. They have shown us kindness, offered their time and expertise and have supported my son and our family throughout our entire journey.
I would like to give a special "Thank You" to those NICU nurses who volunteered their time to make costumes for all the NICU babies. The journey as a NICU parent is uniquely challenging and the extra effort these volunteers made touched my heart in a very special way. It was a wonderful surprise to see my son dressed up as Superman for his very first Halloween. His outfit was just his size and clearly made with love and care. It was very emotional, and I couldn't get my phone out fast enough to capture the moment. I certainly did not expect to be able to involve my son in the holiday festivities but because of the extra effort of the volunteer nurses, we were able to celebrate as a family. The nurses volunteered their time to make wonderful costumes for all of the NICU patients and this really made the day special for everyone. These nurses not only provide great care but help us as parents to celebrate milestones and help make memories that will live in our hearts forever. They are the true heroes behind my little Superhero!
