Naman took care of my dad after he fell and broke his hip. My father has dementia and he is very forgetful and impatient at times. He has had 8 falls in last year and broke his ribs and shoulder before. We all were worried about how my father would do after hip surgery since he has a hard time following orders due to dementia. I live in Maryland and only my mom is here to take care of my dad. Therefore, we were all very worried but then God sent us Naman Patel. He is very special and he knows how to connect with people with dementia. Instantly he created a bond with my dad and my dad followed everything he told him to do. My dad started calling before getting out of bed and started doing deep breathing exercises the way he told him to do. He remembered to dangle his feet and sit at the edge of the bed before getting up. My father still remembers and says, "Naman told me to smell some coffee and blow a candle for deep breathing exercise". He continues to do that. In addition, Naman brought educational material related to dementia and showed my mom how to take care of it and explain the process and all different stages of dementia. He also provided the information and details of seminars held by the Alzheimer's Association and their helpline number. We came in for one thing and we got help with all our issues. He's an angel sent to us by God. My mom and I often talk about him and how we wish we could take him home. It has been 3 months, the first time in a year, my dad has had no falls, and he recovered completely from his broken hip, all thanks to Naman Patel. My family and I owe him. All the nurses are great but Naman took extra time to come and help with dementia and memory issues. He told my mom to write on the board next to dad every day the date, time and activity they will do or visitors coming. This helped my dad with his memory and orientation. He made us feel like we had a private nurse for my dad.
I want to tell everyone at Piedmont that Naman is worth keeping and by far the best nurse we have ever seen. His work ethic, sense of duty and responsibility, physical stamina and emotional flexibility are admirable. He always goes above and beyond. He serves as the ultimate patient advocate. He offers creative approaches to overcome barriers. He takes the time to listen to our concerns and to answer all of our questions. He always displays a genuinely happy, upbeat, and positive attitude. He comes to work with a bright smile and leaves at the end of his shift still with a bright smile. In my 51 years, I have never seen any nurse like him. He is not only the best nurse at Piedmont but he is the best in the whole country.
