Myrlande is a nurse on 4NT who is always less than a second away from a smile. Her entire face and eyes light up when she smiles at you so you know it is from the heart. It is almost an expectation to hear the patients and their families talk about Myrlande when we round. Most cannot say her name but when they start to say it poorly we instantly know who they are referring to. We consistently, on a daily basis, hear about how comforting and compassionate Myrlande is and how she cares for her patients. Patients want to take her home with them. In a recent letter one patient stated that she wished that Myrlande was a medication that she could take home with her (we all wondered what the side effects would be). Words like exceptional and extraordinary are used by patients when they mention Myrlande.

...

Myrlande does not speak very loudly but her love and caring for our patients, their families, our physicians and the team here is evident on a daily basis and speaks volumes in regard to her character. That patient is correct she is medication that is needed on a daily basis and the side effects are a soothing feeling, happiness and compassion for all who partake of it.

I am so very proud of Myrlande and grateful that she is a part of this team. There are no duties or actions above Myrlande. She will be there to do what it takes to help the patients out and the team in general. I've never heard Myrlande say no when she is asked to do something. We cannot clone her or substitute for her as she is one in a million. Thank you for choosing nursing and cancer care as your profession and also for choosing BHMC as the place to share your talent each day.

Angel Smile! Myrlande is a Big Blessing to your hospital. She's willing to go the extra mile to do what it takes to help patients and fellow employees. She gave me hope when I felt at the end of my rope. She helped me through a panic attack, and it worked better than any medication I have ever taken. She should be bottled up and handed out like medication. The biggest Blessing to me.
