My dad had several phenomenal nurses in the Acute Care Unit during the last 5 days of his life. Morgan cared for Dad two of those days. She not only provided outstanding, professional nursing care, but she was as kind and as compassionate as if my dad were her own father. During the last hour of Morgan's second day with Dad his heartbeat grew faint and it seemed he was near death. Morgan calmly and compassionately explained the situation. She told us how glad she was that Jessie was coming on after her because she knew that Jessie was kind and would take excellent care of Dad. She told us she had some shift change tasks to take care of, but that she would come back to tell us goodbye before she left.
Sure enough, nearly a half hour after her shift ended, she came back in the room to say goodbye to my Dad and all of us in his family. She hugged my sister and me, and we thanked her for being so good - make that great - with Dad. Morgan holds a special place in all of our hearts. However, my Dad told her she was his #2 nurse - second only behind my sister.
Morgan defines "extraordinary nurse" for our family. She is well deserving of all accolades and honors that will comer her way.
