Though have there have been plenty of times that Molly has shined as a team player, there was one particular night that I saw her as more than a nurse or colleague. That night I saw her become a friend to a family of complete strangers. On this night I was taking care of a minor who tried to commit suicide by overdosing on some very toxic drugs. During the patient's time in the emergency center, she had to be restrained, experienced seizures, and was eventually intubated.
While I dealt with this patient, who was later transferred to the intensive care unit, I could see Molly standing on the sideline holding onto the patient's distraught mother and father. Molly did not only become a support system for these 2 individuals, but she became an advocate for them. Molly made sure they were aware of every procedure assessment and medication administration she also answered any questions they had. While I was taking care of their child, she was taking care of the parents.
Molly is the best representation of a person who is approachable, someone who is empathetic, and someone who remembers that we are all human.
