Misty Leatherman has been recognized as an outstanding role model to patients, their families and staff at Saint Luke’s East – Lee’s Summit. As a float pool nurse, she consistently displays versatility by being able to float to more areas in the hospital than any other nurse. Her consistently happy, positive, and helpful attitude follow her wherever she goes. She willingly works in all the inpatient units including Mother/Baby as well as the Emergency Department. Misty provides excellent nursing care across the spectrum from infants to the elderly. She is sought after by all departments when they know she is working. Misty has taken on the team leader role and also helps orient new hires. She has been instrumental in providing leadership and excellent resources to the night shift, especially with the opening of the Medical Telemetry Unit.

One staff member describes Misty as someone that every department wants on their unit. She goes on to say that, “she is so helpful to her peers, loving and kind to the patients, and goes above and beyond every shift that she is here.” It is not unlike Misty to spend any extra time sitting in the room with confused patients in order to help them remain calm.

Misty’s teamwork also exemplifies the kind of nurse that is deserving of this special award. She has been recognized by multiple disciplines for going out of her way to help make their shift a little easier. As a team leader, she willingly jumps in to take over care of patients in order to allow the staff RN to complete all their other duties. Misty also demonstrates her commitment to teamwork by precepting new hires and they feel fortunate to be able to work with her. Her teaching style and patient demeanor puts them at ease resulting in optimal patient care.

Lorri Cange, Clinical Nurse Manager for Medical Telemetry and CVRU would like to especially thank Misty for all she has done to help out with the opening of the Medical Telemetry Unit. Lorri describes Misty as someone who brings on that “oh, we’re going to have a good night” feeling.

Thank you, Misty, for being a member of the SLELS family. We are so proud you are a member of our team!
