Mindy always goes the extra mile for her patients. Mindy frequently takes on the most emotionally challenging patients on the unit, she decides what these patients need and rallies a team to help.Thinking back I remember many patients for whom Mindy has made a difference.
Most recently Mr D, who needed to be in isolation for an extended period. This patient had no nearby friends and presented with multiple cultural barriers to optimal care. Mindy rallied a team, and put together a plan that helped the patient accept the treatment he needed to save his life. Daily Mindy went out of her way to reach out to this patient. We were worried that he wasn't eating enough, Mindy stopped at McDonald's on her way to work for an Egg Mc Muffin. His cell phone, his line of communication to the outside world, was turned off, Mindy rallied a team that resulted in getting the bill paid, then tried to get a break on future bills from the cell phone company. This patient is getting better and may soon be able to leave the hospital, thanks to a "Can Do" spirit and teamwork.
