Mike Slivka was our nurse while at the post-partum labor and delivery unit at OSU Wexner Medical Center. While we had several good nurses during our time there, Mike went above and beyond the call of duty and may have been the best nurse we have EVER had. He recognized that this was our first child and took extra time to walk us through the basics of what a baby needs. From showing us proper swaddling techniques, to teaching us to bathe our little one, to giving us tips and tricks for how to tell if our son was hungry, tired, etc. Mike was always willing to provide us with insights from the vault of his vast knowledge. He treated us not like patients, but like family. We were hesitant at first to have a male nurse, especially while my wife was breastfeeding and in extreme discomfort after delivering our son, but after having Mike as our nurse, we wouldn't have wanted anyone else.
After my wife gave birth, we felt ill-prepared to bring our son home. However, after a few hours of talking with Mike over the course of two days, we felt prepared to go home and start our new lives as a family of three. Mike's compassion, care, dedication, and bedside manner all were exemplary as to how anyone in the medical field should act, and he is a true DAISY Nurse.
