Shelly exhibited nursing excellence in the care of her patient and family L.D. L.D. was an elderly male with metastatic cancer of unknown primary, liver failure and renal failure that was admitted to The Chester County Hospital on 8/15. Shelly cared for L.D. throughout his hospitalization.

Utilizing her superior nursing skills, Shelly tirelessly managed all aspects of his fragile physical needs. Through Shelly's compassionate care the patient was cared for in a culturally sensitive manner. Shelly was respectful of the patient's daughter's struggle with her father's impending death and she gently guided L.D.'s daughter through the dying process.

Shelly developed a trusting relationship with L.D.'s daughter and learned about the family's special bereavement norms. After L.D.'s death, Shelly demonstrated cultural sensitivity as she cared for L.D.'s body and his daughter over the next 24 hours. She was present and culturally attentive to all aspects of both patient and family in caring for them as one unit in her deliverance of superior nursing care.
