The night my mother was transferred from the second floor the doctor told me to be prepared as my mother "might not make it" as she had steadily declined since arriving. Mom was transferred to ICU Stepdown and our nurse, Michelle, was so reassuring that everything would be done to help Mama. She was true to her word. She was such a comfort and her demeanor exuded determination, empathy, tenacity, and through her actions, I had no doubt she cared and was capable. She was never rattled and she never gave up. Not only did she tell me she was watching every movement, every monitor, she proved it as actions speak so much louder than words. Before I could ask questions, she had answers. I know God led us to her that night. I know He guided her thoughts and gave her a gentle and kind heart.
This facility is so fortunate to have attracted talent such as this young lady. I have to mention one more thing that shows what Michelle means to me. I couldn't stay with Mama 24/7 the entire stay, so my sister and I took turns. My sister was an ICU nurse. I am not a nurse. I found myself looking at the clock, counting down the hours until Michelle was scheduled back because only then could I be comfortable enough on my watch to know I didn't have to worry. I prayed for a special advocate and only when I saw Michelle's face did I know beyond a doubt that everything would be done in Mom's best interest so I could breathe a little easier (a whole lot easier)! Michelle was here at a time when Mom was so bad and I needed assurance. She gave me that too.
