Michelle was assigned a patient in intake with discharge orders in place. The patient's neighbor was waiting to speak to the patient's nurse who happened to be Michelle. Michelle was informed that this patient recently lost his mother, was living by himself in a home without any running water, food, or electricity. The patient also had a mental capacity of about a seven-year-old. Michelle quickly went up to Dr. S. and asked him to cancel the patient's discharge and told him about the situation. Michelle quickly contacted the ED social worker about the situation to help get services/evaluations in place for the patient. The patient was eventually discharged to home but Michelle didn't stop there. Michelle bought this patient groceries and went with a friend to the patient's house the following week where she left him food and water that would last him several days. Michelle definitely went above and beyond for this patient and made a difference in the patient's life.
