...We recently discharged a patient on the Integrated Health & Aging Unit who, not only had serious psychiatric issues, but also was physically challenged. Michelle would not only attend daily to his skin issues, but would spend a lot of extra time attending to his personal care. She would also spend a lot of time giving him gentle encouragement to become more independent. She encouraged him to begin walking again, and join the unit in social activities. Michelle helped him order things he needed from the internet, and then she would take the time to do the returns for him, if warranted. We, the staff, saw the amazing transformation in this young man. We recognize that the medications were a huge part of his recovery, but just as important was all of the extra time that Michelle spent with this patient. Her gentle ways, her kindness and compassionate care were so very instrumental in helping this young man recover and move forward with discharge plans. This young man raved about Michelle and all she did for him calling her "an awesome person".

I have worked with Michelle for 14 years now, and can honestly say that she is probably the most compassionate nurse I have ever worked with in my nursing career, spanning 38 years Michelle frequently goes beyond and above for her patients, and is an amazing role model to her staff.

We, as staff of the Integrated Health & Aging Unit, would be thrilled to know that Michelle was chosen for an award of excellence as it is so deserved. Thank you very much.
