Michelle has been a nurse at SJC since 2003. She is respected by both Physicians and her peers for her knowledge and expertise, particularly in orthopedics. She is certified in PALS, ACLS, and is sitting for her CNOR this month. She also works as an EMT outside of the hospital.
Michelle has a very kind and caring nature. In surgery, you need to connect with your patients in a very short time and put them at ease; Michelle has this ability. Recently a patient's surgery was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. Even though her "job" for that case was done, Michelle sat and talked with the patient. She made sure the patient understood what happened and made sure they did not have any questions. She offers support when needed.
A late eye case was added on to the OR Schedule and the pre-operative side needed help. Michelle stayed beyond her scheduled hours to make sure the added patient had a good experience and was prepped and ready for surgery. Michelle commonly picks up shifts when the department is short and stays late when needed. She is a preceptor to new employees and is someone the more seasoned employees seek guidance from.
Michelle is always a patient advocate, working to ensure the safest environment possible. She speaks up for safety and does not shy away from difficult conversations when they are needed. She delivers professional and compassionate care, making time to ensure a positive experience for the patient. I believe that Michelle embodies all the qualities of a DAISY Nurse.
